Prescott D. Lane

Head of Private Credit

With the house since 2004

Lending against what a family actually owns: portfolios, property, pictures.

Prescott came to Windsor in 2004 from a shipping-finance house, where collateral either floated or it did not. He has priced credit against bond portfolios, timber, a Whistler, and one particularly stubborn vineyard, and holds that a loan is a conversation about character with arithmetic attached. His book has taken losses in two years out of twenty-one; he can name both borrowers and still takes their calls. He writes his term sheets on a single page and considers the second page a warning sign.

Begin with a conversation.

Relationships begin the old way: a call, a name, a banker. There is no form to fill in tonight.
